The widespread havoc wreathed upon Mumbai and Assam with
the recent
pounding rainfall has brought India to a complete
halt. Communications,
transport, basic facilities are all long
forgotten. The only thing that
really matters right now is
searching for their loved ones...

Open Office

OpenOffice is an open source equivalent of MicroS**t Office. It is pretty neat, covers almost all the features that M.S.Word offers, plus it is FREE! That is one thing i like about open sources. You ought not charge for a product 100 times its actual price, just because it has become the standard over the years and no one was bold enough to engage a superior product to it. That is where i really admire Firefox. It is a very good example of Open Source...and i dont think there is any doubt as to how much better it performs over the old I.E!
The software for open office is available here.
The one big con however is that the documents created through open office are not .doc....a standard needs to be built yet for this kind of packages. Till then, one may use any easily available softwares on the net that can convert the open office files to a word document. However, beware if you have too much of formatting...!:-)

Astronaut IceCream!!!

Yesterday, my friend got me a small packet and handed it over to me with a queer smile. While i was pondering what was so special about it, he asked me "how would you like to eat the same ice cream that the astronauts aboard the space shuttle Discovery are eating at the same time?"

I was in disbelief till he confided in me that he had actually got it from the Discovery store. The ice cream was dry freeze -- it had a like a packed powder like form and was very dry. The taste was "astronomical"! ;-)

There is more information about this at this LINK

It was really worth a try!
